Chicory Witloof Belgian Endive (Bag) – Franchi Sementi

Belgian Endive. 110 days. Direct seed or transplant to a 12" spacing. Plan for a fall harvest, taking 6" of root (shake off the dirt). Store in cool dry place until ready to force. Force in bucket or box in the dark at 55-60 degrees Force in a sand or sand/peat mixture, or just water around roots. Forcing takes 3-4 weeks. 10 gram packet. Approximately 600-900 seeds per gram.

Produces sweet mild yellow 'chicons'. Grow the plant, cut the green leaves (and eat them!), then place the roots in a bucket of loose light soil / sand in your shed and wait for the chicons to grow.

Chicory Red Stem (Bag) – Franchi Sementi

Cicoria Rossa Italiana. Some call this Red Dandelion, but it is a true chicory. Requires a rich, well-tilled soil. Mid-early, upright plant with a large, closely wrapped head. Intense gree, serrated leaves are tall, with large red ribs. Said to be an excellent forcing variety. Take the well-developed plants out in the fall, bunch the leaves and remove secondary roots. Then put in a cooler, closed tub or dark basement and cover lightly with soil. Be the first to let us know about this! 10 gram packet. Approximately 600-900 seeds per gram.

Mid Late variety that produce an upright plant with large wrapped head.
The leaves are tall, with an intense green colour and the ribs are large and red. 10gr

Chard Costa Verde Aka ‘Perpetual Spinach’ or Spinach Beet (Bag) – Franchi Sementi

Chard Verde da Taglio. Green cut & come again. Very thin stems, incredibly sweet & tender leaves. Harvest outer leaves or simply cut the entire plant as it will regrow. Tastes as good as spinach. Light green, smooth leaves which are cooked liked spinach. If you like to eat the legs of the chard then we recommend the Swiss chard above as they are larger. This variety can be harvested 1.5 months later than Swiss Chard however. Grows again quickly after cutting and commonly called Perpetual Spinach although it is not a true spinach it doesn't bolt like spinach and goes on and on or spinach beet bearing in mind that this variety resembles spinach more than chard but is a beet (related to beetroot!).
