Cucumber Beit Alpha. These Mideast type cucumbers have a very thin skin, absolutely no bitterness, are mild, productive over a long season, one of the earliest to produce, and should go until a frost. In short, they are one of the best all-around cucumbers available. Pick them when they are about five or six inches long for best flavor and texture. They do well on a trellis but you can grow them on the ground also. Set out transplants or direct seed three feet apart (3-5 seeds per hill, thin to three best plants) with rows five to six feet apart. 4 gram packet, approximately 100 seeds. Approximately 30-45 seeds per gram.

Capers (Bag) – Franchi Sementi
Capers/Cappero. Mature caper bushes can grow three feet high and spread four or five feet. They are quite pretty and aromatic. They require dry heat and intense sunlight to flourish. Will be killed by temperatures below 20 degrees F. In the north, bring them inside in the winter and treat them like rosemary. Seeds are sometimes difficult to germinate; soak seeds a day, put in refridgerator in wet towel in plastic bag for 6 weeks, then plant in 5" pots, 4 seeds/pot. Thin to strongest. When transplanting, disturb root as little as possible. May have flowers year 1, will have them year 2. 1 gram packet.
Indoor only. This perennial plant is ideal for pickling in vinegar for later use on pizza and in antipasti. Must be grown in a hot climate, or in a greenhouse/conservatory. Sow from Mar-Jun and add sand and gravel to the soil. Please note that germination can take from 3-12 months.

Very flat red beet shaped like a cipolla onion. Excellent taste. Very sweet beet; no earthy taste to these. Nice red tops. Beautiful tops become dark bronze/red in cool weather. Ready in 55-60 or so days. 7 gram pack. Approximately 40-60 seeds per gram.

Basil Fine Verde Greek (Ocimum basilicum L.) (Bag) – Franchi Sementi

This is a mid-early variety producing bushes variety with small leaves and quite a strong flavor. This variety is easy to grow, especially in containers.
Super for making good basilly sauces and with Red Pear Franchi tomatoes.

Basil Fine Nano Compatto a Palla (formerly Greco a Palla). This is a beautiful plant, a bush variety with a naturally round shape. It has small, bright green leaves. The flavor is intense and holds up well in tomato dishes. Use for flavoring or just leave some on a plate or in a jar in the kitchen for aroma and color.
It can be grown in a large pot. For transplants, start 5-6 seeds in a cell six or seven weeks before set out date which is ten or more days after last frost date. Thin to three or four. Set plants 12 inches apart. For direct seeding, 7-8 seeds every foot, thin to two or three. 5 gram packet, about 3,000 seeds.
Basil has approximately 600-650 seeds per gram.

Anise. Lovely plant that needs a lot of heat and prefers full sun. Start seeds indoors 10 weeks before last frost; set outside when weather is warm and settled, trying not to disturb roots. Space 6" apart. Flowers in late summer. For anise seeds, cut stems, hang & collect seeds when dry.
