Cucumber Tortarello Barese or Armenian (Bag) – Franchi Sementi
Cucumber Tortarello Barese. 65-70 days. An Italian strain of Armenian cucumber popular in Bari, Italy. Picked young, it tastes just like a cucumber. Left to mature, the fruits turn slightly yellow and develop a melon-like fragrance and flavor. It is renowned for early, prolific production of fruits that grow very quickly. Does well on trellis. Plant 4-6 seeds per hill; space hills 3' apart. Thin to 3 plants per hill. 3 gram pack; approximately 100 seeds.

"Long Purple." 8-inch-long, rustic, deep purple eggplant. Grown all over Italy. Classic rich eggplant taste. Good producer, reliable. 70 days. 3 gram packet, approximately 600 seeds. Approximately 200-250 per gram.

V3 - This is the classic Italian eggplant typically used in Emilia Romagna to make 'Parmigiana' with tomatoes and parmesan cheese. This is a mid-early variety, very productive. It produces long, dark and slightly curved aubergine of medium dimensions with very few seeds inside.

Misticanza Quattro Stagioni — Mesclun Four Seasons. Mesclun mix of lettuce, endive, radicchio & chicory. 14 varieties including Verona, Pan Zucchero, Four Seasons lettuce, Romaines, cutting lettuces. For salads or braising. Cut when 3-4 inches tall. Make succession plantings every 2-3 weeks for continuous harvests. 8 gram packet, approximately 4500 seeds. Approximately 600-1200 seeds per gram.

Basil Violetto Aromatico / Dark Opal (Ocimum basilicum L.) (Bag) – Franchi Sementi
Violetto Aromatico / Dark Opal basil. This is a really pretty basil. Nice color, good size plant similar in size and growth habit to Genovese basil. Good aroma and flavor. Will do ok in a pot, but does better outside in the garden. Consider using it as a decorative plant in place of flowers. A bed of red basil, Genovese basil and lettuce leaf basil is quite pretty. For transplants, start 6-7 weeks before set out date (10 days after last frost date), 5-6 seeds/cell and thin to two or three. Plant at 12 inch intervals. For direct seed, 6-7 seeds every 12 inches cover with 1/4 inch fine soil and keep watered until germination: 7-10 days. Thin to 2-3 plants per space.
Basil has approximately 600-650 seeds per gram.

Red Basil. This is a mid-early variety with vigorus plant. The leaves have a bright violet colour and a sweet intense perfume. Sweeter tasting than regular basil with a slight clove undertone.
Easy to grow and ideal for containers.

Arugula Selvatica or Wild Rocket (Diplotaxis tenuifollia)(Bag) – Franchi Sementi
Arugula Selvatica means Wild Arugula. Compared to Cultivated Arugula, it is slower growing, ready in about 50 days, with more deeply lobed leaves and a more pungent flavor. This is the type of Arugula (also called Rucola or Rocket) that grows wild in the countryside around Rome. Seeds of Arugula selvatica are much smaller than Arugula Coltivata seeds, so the packet weight is smaller but still contains a similar number of seeds. Arugula selvatica has 3,000 seeds per gram. Our 3-gram packet is about 9,000 seeds.
Arugula has been grown since Roman times, reputedly as an aphrodisiac, and is used widely in Italian cuisine. It's great as a salad ingredient, or simply eaten alone with a sprinkle of salt and a drizzle of olive oil. In Italy, it is often wilted over hot pizza or in pasta just before serving. Ischia, an island in the Bay of Naples, has a traditional digestif liqueur made from arugula, called rucolino. Arugula pesto is made just like basil pesto, and is a good substitute when the weather is too cold for basil. Arugula survives low temperatures and is usually the first and last salad green in the garden. Under row cover, it will survive all but the coldest winters.
Sprinkle seeds about an inch apart. Replant frequently for a long season of harvest. Our huge packets provide plenty of seed!
